Fall armyworms are common in the Southeastern United States during late summer and fall. During this period, the armyworm can potentially cause severe damage to lawns, particularly Bermuda and Zoysia grasses.
The armyworm is the larvae of a moth that lays its eggs on fences, houses, and other objects during July and early August. When the worms hatch out, they begin eating the blades of the grass down to the crown, causing it to be brown, weak, and unsightly. Armyworms can have several generations in our area.
The damaged areas may recover if properly treated and followed by good growing conditions for recovery.
Armyworms have been a severe pest in our area over the last few years. This fall, we recommend a special treatment that will prevent or significantly reduce the populations of armyworms in your lawn. This treatment also helps with grubworms and other lawn-damaging insects.
